What Is A Green Product?
Article by Rick Walker, LEED AP
With the growing popularity of the sustainable movement, many manufacturers tout their products as environmentally friendly, green or sustainable. Regrettably, many of these claims are baseless and have resulted in a sustainable marketplace flooded with un-rated and untested products.
To be sustainable or green, a product must meet the needs of the present without compromising the future. Developing sustainable products requires a commitment to change production techniques and to evaluate all materials used to manufacture and energize the product.
The process of evaluating products is called life cycle analysis and consists of two basic stages. The first stage involves a complete inventory of the product while the second stage details the product’s impact analysis. Environmentalists are undertaking to apply standards to green products. Several initiatives have been launched to rate sustainable products and services.
The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments and the Institute for Market Transformation to Sustainability (MTS) have announced an educational partnership dedicated to advancing the standards for global sustainability. The joint effort will concentrate on the overall building environment, including construction materials, mechanical, interior finishing products and products that are used in green building operations and maintenance.
The first objective of the alliance is to launch a marketing and educational awareness program that defines and promotes sustainable products that are certified using the life cycle analysis as the basis of the certification.
The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments is composed of industry leaders who practice sustainable development. MTS is a not-for-profit public charity whose members include leading environmental groups, government agencies and companies that administers the Sustainable Materials Rating Technology (SMaRT) rating system.
The SMaRT rating system currently rates approximately 80 percent of the world’s products. Like the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, the SMaRT system offers four levels of certification; Sustainable, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
In its efforts to untangle the sustainable purchasing process and establish viable criteria for developers, architects, construction companies and real estate managers, MTS is also promoting the use of green procurement systems. Through a new initiative to list and label green products, the Institute intends to make the conversion to purchasing sustainable products an easier process.
The U.S. Environmental Agency’s Energy Star Program serves as the sustainable rating system for energy-efficient appliances and buildings. The Environmental Protection Agency has also developed the WaterSense program that is used to certify water efficient products and services while the EPEAT system has evolved as the leading green computer certification program.
The most reliable rating system for interior sustainable products is the Greenguard Environmental Institute certification program. A wide variety of interior products like bedding, air filters, flooring, furniture and wall finishes. NSF International has established the Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard to rate all commercial carpets. The Scientific Certification System provides sustainable standards for flowers, plants and forestry products. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has defined nine areas by which forested wood is rated.
The Underwriters Laboratories is a product testing company that has also launched a new division to test, validate and certify products that claim to be sustainable. UL has worked closely with the EPA to develop rating criteria for a wide range of products.

New battery for renewable energy
Scientists from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have created a new sodium-nickel chloride battery to store renewable energy. toshiba pa3356u-1bas battery.
Their goal is to save the energy produced by wind and sun. As of now a lot of the renewable energy is wasted. If it can’t be used immediately, it’s gone.
“It’s mainly for grid storage. It’s to help alleviate issues associated with renewables. Renewables are great but they are very intermittent,” said Kerry Meinhardt, Senior Scientist from PNNL.
Meinhardt adds that by changing the shape of the battery they’re able to use more renewable energy from wind and solar power. toshiba pa3593u-1bas battery.
“We are going from a tubular design and we are trying to move to a plainer battery.
This hopefully allows the battery to be backed in a smaller area and be more efficient and have lower resistances and faster charge and discharge times,” said Meinhardt.
In fact, research shows that the new flat batteries provide 30% more power than the older ones. Which means the renewable energy can be used more efficiently.
“So you need to store that power so when the wind is there and the sun is there you can store that power and use at a later date when it’s actually needed,” said Meinhardt.
But scientists still have a long way to go before the sodium batteries will be used. Their next step is to create a much larger model. acer travelmate 2600 battery.
“We need very large batteries and a lot of them.
These are going to be massive battery banks to hold them,” said Meinhardt.
Battery company is an operated online retailer of high-quality electronics accessories, specialising in laptop batteries and laptop ac adapter, battery chargers, camera batteries, camcorder batteries, power tool batteries and mobile phone batteries. Battery company has quickly grown to one of the top online Australian retailers of electronics accessories, offering generic product brands that provide the same quality as the big brand names but at half the price.

If you want to experience the green life and understand how to make your home green, then you should consider the Green Building Video/Webinar Course. There are twelve classes on green home building, all taught with video/webinars. The course explains how to make an eco-friendly home through illustrations, photos, videos and PowerPoints.
While a good many of us like to discuss the importance of green living, you need to think about whether you actually live it. Regardless if you believe that there is a greenhouse effect or not, the United States is competing for ever-shrinking energy resources. China and India are actually expanding phenomenally, and they are taking energy away from this country, which means that it is time to make some changes. When compared with places like Japan, Germany and China, the United States is far behind in terms of making our buildings green or eco-friendly. It really is hard for the United States to move ahead and a good example of this is our inability to stop using incandescent light bulbs.
One of the many problems we have to deal with is building massive homes that are not efficiently built. Craftsmanship is becoming sloppier, in addition to cheaper methods of construction with shorter life spans. Also, a lot of us do not recycle and tend to waste a lot of water. It could be improved if perhaps we built homes that were developed for practicality instead of size. You might have solar systems set up to homes so that the dependence of fossil fuels is reduced. It is possible to change out old components of homes with more modern and energy efficient ones. It will probably never happen because it is apparently too complicated to learn how to do environmentally friendly building. For some of us, we believe the high cost to build just isn’t worth the effort.
In order to find answers to making your home eco-friendly, you can visit the website called 50Green.com. It is easy to subscribe at the website with your email and name then you will have access to their blog, videos, a 50 Builder Secrets eBook and the ability to purchase premium content. When compared with other locations, the United States is way behind in regards to green living. If you want to stay in front of the curve, you need to be constantly trying to find answers on your own. While no one is there to do it for you, you can get the information you need to accomplish it yourself.
When you get the Green Building Video/Webinar Program, you can get the information you need to have a environmentally-friendly home. Discover ways to ease your life, even while those around you continue to live a life of waste.

Article by Carey Edwards
Going green is an important step that’s being taken by home and more homeowners to preserve the environment around them. The added benefit of going green is that it often increases your overall quality of life as well, because the positive effects of the transition are so abundant.
So where do you start and how do you go green? It all starts by changing the things that we use on a daily basis, things that might not be green, but could be if we take the time to shop around. Here are the top green products for Florida homeowners:
Energy Star Light Bulbs: If you’re looking for a place to start going green but aren’t sure where to begin, consider starting small. Energy Star light bulbs are the easiest way to start your transition to a greener lifestyle. They’re cheap and can save you a ton on electricity costs each year. They reduce energy waste and use less power to have a positive effect on the environment.
Shop Greener Foods: Something we use every day is also something that could be greener if we stop and think about it: food. The food we eat itself doesn’t have to be green, but making the conscious decision to buy food packaged in biodegradable packaging can certainly help the environment. Next time you’re in the store, check and see if your favorite brand of potato chips packages their food in biodegradable bags, as many brands have started doing so. This also applies to our drink. Instead of buying plastic soda bottles that can take forever to break down when improperly recycled, try cans.
Green Garbage Bags: One thing that we as humans generate everyday is garbage. Some generate far less than others, but just about everyone needs a way to get rid of it. You’ll never realize how important green garbage bags are until you understand their benefit for nature. They break down easily, yet hold up well by keeping waste out of the environment.
Besides the top green products for Florida homeowners listed above, those who are serious about going green can also look into a variety of Energy Star products and appliances that do a great job of helping you go green.
By taking simple steps to change our daily habits, everyone can make the effort to go green. Start small with light bulbs and work your way up to Energy Star appliances, and you’ll have a greener home in no time at all.

Article by Barbara Walsh
Has all the recent talk of renewable energy got you thinking about living greener and doing your part to reduce your carbon footprint? If it has, then you’re going to need some help going green. Thankfully, Clean Green Nation can help in the place where you’re going to need the most guidance: your home.
Did you know that the majority of a person’s energy waste comes directly from their home? This is due to the lack of energy efficient items that could be working to save you from wasting frivolous amounts of energy. Here are a few green products, Toronto homeowners should have to keep energy waste at a minimum:
CFL Light Bulbs: Bar far one of the cheapest green products, Toronto homeowners can invest in, CFL light bulbs are also one of the most effective at reducing energy waste. Traditional light bulbs waste energy in large amounts if left on for too long. CFL light bulbs are manufactured with green technology so that they remain constant no matter how long they’re on.
Energy Star Appliances: Energy Star appliances are another example of effective green products, Toronto homeowners can take advantage of. Right now, your appliances might be wasting energy even when you’re not using them! This is due to phantom energy loss that occurs when a regular appliance is kept plugged in for extended periods of time. Energy Star products work to correct this phantom energy loss, keeping your overall energy waste low.
Weatherization Products: Weatherization products have one main goal: to keep your home airtight and insulated. By sealing up cracks and unrestricted airflow spaces, you’re keeping regulated air temperatures inside your home. In effect, this keeps your heating and cooling system from working too hard and wasting energy on air that’s just going to escape. Weatherization products include sealants, insulation and chimney balloons.
Not only does keeping your home green save the environment around you, it also saves you money on energy bills. This savings is exemplified if you choose to also invest in renewable energy options for your home, like personal wind turbines or photovoltaic panels. If you compare costs, the one-time fee of a green energy item is far less than the continued cost of wasted energy each month.
