What is Going On With Renewable Energy?

I am only a small look at the Renewable Energy Advancements in the United States but I want everyone who is concerned to know more. I can not answer that question “What is Going On With Renewable Energy?” but I can tell you some things that I do know.

First over the past 5 years during the Green Energy Boom here in the U.S. we have gone from being very dependent on Foreign developers to holding our own. For example with Foreign Wind Turbine designs and advancements we mostly did nothing but provide cash, land,labor and access to the U.S. for Wind Farm Development.  As expected the U.S. and our workers are now the best developers for green energy in the world. Even the leading manufacturers from outside the U.S. have decided that their products if erected on U.S. soil will be produced here. Maybe to save money in the assembly process but none the same it gave us control of assets and put American men and women to work. Isn’t that the priority? So we achieved a goal and we developed a new market that will also save our planet and provide for our future children and their livelihoods.  Mmmmm did we really?

Lets go ahead a look at this now. In April it appears that the Congress failed to attach the Federal Production Tax Credit extensions for wind. Most  of  us have heard of PTC and have come to expect an extension. Well with this passing and no extenstion attached to the payroll tax cut what else could make it worse? It is election year so the chances of a stand alone extension going through Congress is looking slim. This is where we all need to make sure we are heard and understood. We need to alert our Congress to just what is about to happen.

In the economy of the U.S. if we do not have an extension of PTC than we are facing yet another industry that will be forced to perform massive layoffs within the Wind Industry. We are going to notice the loss of Wind Energy and it’s job market plus energy producing benefits. You can see how much effect there is in the country already if you are watching the wind energy stocks. I believe the other clean renewable energy sectors will also start showing drastic drops inside their industry stock.

Many companies will be effected and the renewable energy developers will most likely feel it first. The developers are the companies that rely on PTC more than the rest.  So with this said these companies will not go away but what they will do is go work in other Countries. Canada is sure to benefit from cheaper wind materials and equipment that should have been used in the United States.  Many of the companies will be work through some of this chaos since their job values were in place prior to the expected PTC expiration.

Many persons still feel that Fossil Fuel is the best way to go for our future. There are many good reasons why we continue with Fossil Fuel and we are not going into all that here. Many know that combined heat and power plants called (CHP) have a fuel efficiency rate better than 90 percent while converting fuel into electrical production plus heat. This said renewable energy is a growing market that has made huge advances and will continue to make huge technical advancements for years and years to come.

We must not stop supporting renewables like Wind Energy. It is going to be something if we allow all of our neighboring countries develop the future energy sources.

Renewable energy substitutes conventional fuels in electricity generation, hot water/space heating, motor fuels and rural off-grid energy services.

Climate change concern, in addition with high oil prices, peak oil and greater government support, has given rise to renewable power incentive and commercialization. According to a 2011 projection by the International Energy Agency, solar power generators may produce most of the world’s electricity within 50 years, which would dramatically reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases that harm the environment. The mainstream forms of renewable energy are wind power, hydro power, solar energy, geothermal energy, bio fuels and bio mass.

When airflows are used to run wind turbines, the kinetic energy in the wind is converted to mechanical energy. This mechanical energy can then be used to produce electricity or drive machinery.

Hydro power is form of renewable energy where the power in water is harnessed and used to generate electricity. The cost of hydroelectricity is relatively low, making it a competitive source of renewable electricity.

Solar energy can be defined as the conversion of sunlight into electricity. This can be done directly with the use of photovoltaic or indirectly by concentrated solar power. Commercial concentrated solar power plants were first developed in the 1980s.

Geothermal energy, thermal energy generated and stored in the earth. Thermal energy is the energy that determines the temperature of matter. Geothermal power is cost effective, reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly, but has historically been limited to areas near tectonic plate boundaries.

Bio mass, another source of renewable energy as the energy it contains comes from the sun. It is a biological material from living organisms. This is then converted to bio fuel, through biological carbon fixation.

New and emerging technologies are still under development and include cellulosic ethanol, hot-dry-rock geothermal power, and ocean energy. Fossil fuels are old news and that type of energy generation will one day be depleted. I am not saying we should expect that greener energy will totally replace non-renewable sources but making use of alternative energy source will help us all. If we can minimize the use of fossil fuel energy production by supplementing it with renewable s why not? It takes many lifetimes for nature to produce coal, yet we can produce solar and wind generation systems within our time.

All of our household items of convenience are contributing toward global warming and hazards air qualities. If we continue to ignore what we are doing to our life giving atmosphere, land and waters we are going to see disastrous climate changes and land mass alterations.  If we all can agree, than renewable energy needs to be one of the first actions considered by popular vote. By using solar, wind and other forms of green energy production we can provide better energy efficiency. This action will led toward direct savings in money and reduced damage to our planet. Reduction of global warming may happen if not stop it completely.

All of us should take the responsibility to support, use and advance wind power energy, solar energy, hydro energy and bio energy. We must advance to this state. They are renewable energy sources and for those of you not sure what I mean by that; they are always available and will never be depleted.

There are many persons developing and improving alternative energy sources. There has been huge developments in solar and wind power. It is so easy and less expensive now than ever before to install solar or wind power generation systems at our homes. Using these effectively can led to a total supply of energy for your home. You could stop paying energy bills and have all the electrical power you need. For commericial supplied energy there is no single solution but a combination of solutions can be employed to improve energy cost and efficency.

Take the time to review your options. Clean energy is available and not only can you help the future of our world but you will save money and be proud of your own energy production.

Employing Wind as an Energy Source

Today, there are rather more than 1/4 of a million air turbines around the world. Nonetheless only 25 percent of these turbines are used to generate electricity. The rest are used to pump water from the ground. Worldwide , wind power has been growing at 30 percent each year, and now generates the equivalent of 20 coal-powered power stations. Wind power uses no fuel and does not produce any harmful emissions or wastes, apart from those employed in the creation of the turbines.

Breezy locations

Air turbines get built in places that are breezy all of the time, such as coasts and even the shores of some large lakes. The contemporary wind turbine has a lofty tower, at the top of which are 2 or 3 blades. The blades are moved by the wind. The kinetic energy is converted directly into electricity by turning a generator.

Wind turbine design

Turbines come in 2 basic designs, the key difference being in the drive shaft. This is the part of the turbine that connects the blades to the generator. The commonest design is the horizontal axis turbine, with 2 or 3 blades. Horizontal axis turbines have a horizontal drive shaft.

Vertical axis turbines have vertical drive shafts. The blades are lengthy, curved and attached to the tower at the very top and bottom. More recently, ‘shrouded ‘ turbines have appeared. These have a hood around the rotor to funnel the wind over the blades. This is the cause of the wind to move faster over the blades, spinning them more quickly.

Air turbines are accelerating in size, and the biggest are now more than 120 metres in height. The wind is more powerful higher above the ground, so taller turbines bring the blades into contact with quicker moving air. The blades are getting longer too , reaching lengths of eighty metres or even more. They are constructed from light, but strong, composite materials, so they can survive powerful winds.

The layout

The placing of the wind turbines is significant, too. If they’re placed too near together, they block the wind power from their neighbours. PCs are used to work out the best positions. Electronic monitors measure the wind speed and direction. This info is used to amend the angle of the blades and the direction of the entire turbine to fit the wind conditions. If the blades were allowed to spin too swiftly, they could break. If the wind is too powerful, the blades are either turned out of the wind, or brakes are applied.

I am sure you recall when saving was a way of life, chiefly because times were tough for everyone and people would only have enough to get by.
